What is FemtoLASIK?

The Amaris 1050RS laser stands out with its 1050 Hz pulsed frequency, dual-energy level ablation, 0.54 mm "Spot" size, optimized thermal pulse distribution, turbo automated tracking, sixth-dimensional tracking, online pachymetry, and aspheric ablation profiles.

The latest tool, FEMTO LDV Z8, uses low-pulse energy for precise cutting. SMARTPulse, with Amaris 1050RS, enhances postoperative visual quality. This technological advancement, applicable in various techniques such as bladeless LASIK, transPRK, and PresbyMAX, offers rapid recovery and minimal side effects.

How much does LASIK surgery cost?

Actually, the cost of the surgery does not depend on the degree of myopia, astigmatism, or hypermetropia. The cost of the surgery will depend on the type of excimer laser used and whether you want the surgery to be done with or without a blade.

  • What experience do we have in Keratoconus and Intraocorneal Ring surgery?

    Clínica de Ojos de Tijuana was first ophthalmology center in Mexico and one of the first Worldwide to use intracorneal ring 10 years ago for keratoconus treatment.

    Today, we are a referral center for keratoconus patients in Mexico and the southwest United States for the treatment of this disease.

    We have performed this surgery in thousands of keratoconus patients with very good results.

  • What are the objectives with intracorneal ring surgery?

    The main goal of intracorneal ring surgery is stop or slow progression of keratoconus, delaying or avoiding the need for corneal transplant surgery. A secondary goal of surgery is to improve vision. Patients will notice a decrease in prescription size and an improvement in visual acuity.

    The advantage of corneal ring surgery is that it allows a fast visual recovery without a prolonged recovery time as is needed with a corneal transplant. Rehabilitation time usually takes approximately 3 months.

    

Nonetheless this surgery does not preclude the possibility of a future transplant surgery. If the intrastromal rings are not tolerated, they can be removed and the cornea will return to its original shape.

  • What risks or complications are associated during or after surgery?

    The risk of complications associated with this type of surgery is minimal. Intolerance to the intrastromal ring has been observed in less than 1% of patients. The risk of infection is reported in the medical literature to be 0.0001%.

How long do the benefits of LASIK surgery last?

FemtoLASIK surgery takes 5 minutes to perform and 48 hours to recover to return to normal activities. The surgery can last up to 20 years before losing correction due to the normal aging of the eyes. The approximate time may vary depending on the visual defect and the age at which the surgery is performed. Our specialists can tell you exactly how long the surgery can last after preoperative examinations.

How safe is LASIK?

The FemtoLASIK procedure is extremely safe, with the most significant risk being infection, with an incidence of 1 in 20,000 at Tijuana Eye Center.

When can LASIK not be done?

If you suffer from a chronic degenerative disease, you may not be a candidate for surgery. A thorough evaluation is important to determine the specific health conditions of each person.

How do I know if I am a candidate for LASIK surgery?

You must be at least 18 years old and meet certain corneal morphological characteristics to be a candidate for LASIK surgery and achieve lasting correction. When you come for a consultation, we can determine with accuracy whether you can undergo the surgery.
