What is TransPRK?

TransPRK is an excimer laser surface refractive-based procedure over the cornea without the need for cutting or flap creation as is done with LASIK, IntraLASIK, Smile, FemtoLASIK, etc.

High risk jobs

TransPRK is used in patients who perform extreme sports such martial arts, kickboxing and boxing. It is recommended in patients with high myopa or astigmatism and/or have thin corneas that are not candidates for LASIK surgery or its variant techniques. It is an excellent option for patients with high-risk jobs such as law enforcement officials, firemen or members of the armed forces. Patients with high anxiety over the creation of a flap are excellent candidates for this type of surgery.

TransPRK consists in a highly sophisticated software that removes the corneal epithelium followed by laser ablation of the stromal surface with an optimized ablation profile to eliminate the refractive error and visual aberrations. Multicenter studies have shown that this innovative technology developed by Schwind GmbH allows a quicker recovery than traditional PRK performed in the majority of refractive surgery practices, allowing correction of higher refractive errors for patients that are not candidates for other types of laser procedures such as (LASIK, IntraLASIK, FemtoLASIK or Smile).

Fill out the following questionnaire below to determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK surgery:

After Surgery

Immediately after surgery, you will notice an improvement in vision. Slightly blurred vision will improve over the next of couple of days. A contact lens will be placed over the eye to accelerate healing and corneal protection. By the end of the week, your vision will be healed, approximately 90%.

By the end of the month, most if not all symptoms will be subside. Halos or glare can be seen during the first 3 months. Dryness symptoms may be noted during the first few months and artificial tears are recommended.

At Clinica de Ojos de Tijuana, Custom Wavefront Guided LASIK is performed on all our patients. We believe all patients who wish to get rid of their eyeglasses should have access to best technology available.

With the help of the Schwind ORKCAM Software all optical aberrations are measured with the Sirius Topographer to create a personalized ablation profile which can be then transferred to the Amaris 750s for a personalized treatment of your visual defect.

The AMARIS 750s represents the culmination of years of investigation and technological development from Schwind Laboratory in Germany. This excimer laser was developed with the idea of solving all issues that refractive surgeons posed to the company.

The result is an advanced laser with the latest and innovative technological breakthroughs in a decade for the correction of refractive defects such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia with extreme precision and an accelerated recovery.
The AMARIS 750S is several steps ahead of the competition:

Benefits of the AMARIS 750S

True 750 Hz Pulse Frequency: All laser pushes reach the corneal surface at the correct designated points of the surface of the cornea.

Ablation at two different energy levels: Highly precise, gentle ablation of corneal tissue. Maximum precision - minimum treatment time.

0.54 mm laser spot size: Very smooth treatment surfaces. Immediate clear sight.

Thermally optimized distribution of laser pulses.

Treats carefully corneal tissue: Even at higher speed with a quicker recovery.

1050 Hz Turbo Eye Tracker: Constant positioning system. Checks eye position 1050 times per second. Reacts to eye movements within 3 ms or faster. Perfect positioning of the laser beam.

Five Dimensional Eye Tracker: Compensates the slight eye movements in all five directions.

Online Pachymetry: Captures and registers changes in corneal thickness in online time. Safety system: monitors the compliance of treatment planning with actual treatment.

Aspheric Ablation Profile: Provides the cornea with its optimal curvature. Considers the biomechanics properties of the eye. Prevents aberration inducement.

What Is SMARTPulse?

SMARTPulse technology improves the quality of vision in the early postoperative period in all treatment options with the Amaris 750s.

LASIK en HD - transPRK - PresbyMAX

Patients treated with this technology notice the “wow” effect as the come out of the laser room.

SMARTPulse utilizes a sophisticated geometric modeling software based on a fullerene structure to accelerate visual recovery.

Key Points Summary
  • Surface Ablation Technique: A form of PRK that reshapes the cornea without the need for creating a flap, using a laser applied directly to the surface.
  • No Flap Creation: Eliminates the risks associated with the flap creation in LASIK.
  • Suitable for Thin Corneas: Ideal for patients with thinner corneas who are not candidates for LASIK.
  • Recovery Period: Recovery might be slightly longer than LASIK, with a few days of discomfort.
