What is Topography?

Computerized Corneal Topography is a computerized analysis software system used to measure the corneal curvature and irregularities.

excimer laser system

It is a well known diagnostic method and universally performed. But at the Clinic, our topography systems are linked to our excimer laser system allowing transfer of the topographic data to be incorporated in the treatment ablation profile and a personalized refractive result (otherwise known as Wavefront Guided LASIK).

It is important to stop contact lens wear use days prior to examination. Soft lenses can be stopped 2 to 3 days and hard contact lenses 8 to 15 days before the exam.

Elevation Corneal Topography

It is a computerized analysis software system used to measure the corneal curvature and irregularities through an optical system which allows measurement of the anterior and posterior corneal surface, densitometry, anterior chamber and its angle, crystalline densitometry. Elevation topography has become a routine procedure for all patients undergoing LASIK surgery, keratoconus suspects, glaucoma patients, cataract patients. This exam permits better and more precise measurements.

LASIK Surgery Evaluation

Topography analysis is an indispensable part of any evaluation for patients undergoing LASIK surgery. The tridimensional images allow precise measurement of the anterior and posterior corneal surface, corneal thickness, corneal aberrometry readings which will help predict the refractive success of the surgery. This analysis will also help detect subtle abnormalities which could contraindicate LASIK surgery.

Keratoconus Evaluation

Keratoconus patients should routinely have topographic exams to determine staging and progression.

Diagnostic Eye Tests

It is important to allow enough time in your schedule for a thorough eye examination. Typically, these can take 1 to 2 hours but may be longer if you require special testing. In all cases, please refer to our Clinic Guidelines

Key Points Summary
  • Advanced Diagnostic Tool: Corneal topography is a state-of-the-art imaging technique used to map the surface curvature of the cornea, the outer structure of the eye.
  • Non-Invasive Procedure: The test is non-contact and painless, making it comfortable for patients. It uses light to capture detailed images of the cornea.
  • Early Detection: The test is non-contact and painless, making it comfortable for patients. It uses light to capture detailed images of the cornea.
  • Customized Treatment Plans: The test is non-contact and painless, making it comfortable for patients. It uses light to capture detailed images of the cornea.
  • Post-Surgical Assessment:It is also valuable for monitoring changes in the cornea after surgical procedures like LASIK or cataract surgery, ensuring optimal outcomes and addressing any complications promptly.
  • Specialized Care: The procedure is part of our comprehensive eye care services, provided by experienced professionals dedicated to maintaining and improving your eye health.
